Environmental Policy
Our Commitment to Environmental Responsibility
Duraweld believes that protecting our ecosystem and operating in an environmentally responsible manner are essential to sustaining the future of our company and the quality of life of future generations.
As a UK manufacturer, we recognise that our activities use materials, energy and other resources and can have an impact on the environment. Our Environmental Policy sets out the principles we use to help manage these impacts, minimise waste and identify opportunities for continued improvement.
Resource Efficiency
• We aim to use resources responsibly throughout our operations.
• When purchasing equipment, products and services, we consider their environmental impact as part of the purchasing process. We utilise just-in-time procurement where appropriate and work to ensure that as much waste as possible is recycled, with a continued focus on reducing the amount sent to landfill.
• Resource efficiency is considered throughout our manufacturing processes, helping us make effective use of the materials and resources available to us.
Waste Hierarchy
• Preventing and minimising waste is an important part of our approach to manufacturing.
• We seek to improve compliance with the waste hierarchy by considering opportunities to prevent and reduce waste during both the design and production of our products.
• We also utilise lean manufacturing principles and staff education to identify practical improvements that can reduce unnecessary material use and waste.
• Our approach is to consider waste before it is created, rather than relying solely on how it is handled at the end of the manufacturing process.
Energy & Water Efficiency
• We recognise the importance of using energy and water efficiently within our manufacturing operations.
• We aim to reduce the total amount of energy and water used as a percentage of what we manufacture and continue to investigate techniques and technologies that may help us improve efficiency.
• Monitoring our performance helps us understand where resources are being used and identify areas where improvements may be possible.
Sustainable Travel Management
• We encourage practical ways of reducing unnecessary business travel and its associated environmental impact.
• Where possible, we use technology to communicate without the need to travel. We also encourage employees to consider car sharing, cycling to work and the use of public transport for meetings where appropriate.
Stakeholder Awareness
• Environmental responsibility involves our employees, suppliers, customers and other stakeholders.
• We encourage our staff to consider ways of reducing their own carbon footprint and to participate in appropriate corporate social responsibility activities.
• Relevant personnel are provided with training and awareness of applicable environmental issues so that environmental considerations can form part of everyday working practices.
• For our customers, we aim to offer greener solutions where suitable options are available, helping them consider environmental factors when specifying products and materials.
Pollution Prevention & Environmental Compliance
• Duraweld is committed to pollution prevention and compliance with applicable national and international environmental legal and other requirements.
• As part of our Environmental Management System, we work to ensure that relevant environmental aspects and impacts associated with our activities are identified and understood.
• This provides a framework for considering environmental issues within our operations and supporting appropriate controls and improvements.
Monitoring Environmental Performance
• Environmental improvement requires ongoing review.
• We continue to record and collate relevant environmental data and review our performance annually to identify areas where improvements may be made.
• We are also committed to open, honest and effective communication with our stakeholders regarding our environmental performance.
• Through continued monitoring, review and employee awareness, we aim to maintain environmentally responsible working practices and identify opportunities for further improvement.
