Innovation – Ocean plastic becomes book cloth
Duraweld are expanding our eco-friendly recycled range by partnering with Winter & Company and Tide Ocean SA.
Winter & Company came to see us with a new book covering concept. Using mainly recycled ocean plastic waste which is granulated then woven into a thread they are able to produce the innovative material called ‘Toile Ocean’.
Every year, over 8 million tonnes of plastic are dumped into the ocean, so this was a perfect fit for our own carbon reduction ethos and the expansion of our existing eco-friendly Kraft range. We started to experiment with ring binder, packaging, folder, menu and clipboard coverings to name a few with fantastic results.
Toile Ocean is also certified vegan friendly, we also use specialist cold glue not derived from animal fats to maintain the credentials as part of our manufacturing process.
The back of Toile Ocean is coated with a water-based acrylic. This adds stability to the fabric and impregnation for water/glue permeability.
Available in a variety of colours this inspirational material can support your own business to achieve its sustainability goals and go green.
